# Foundworks device master — MacBook Pro, 14-inch, M4 Pro, Space Black

Prepared October 4, 2026. Target: the **2024 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro**, U.S. ANSI keyboard, standard display finish. The 14-inch size was selected because no size was specified. This is an editable exterior reconstruction for Foundworks website presentations.

## Accuracy statement

**Real-world scale is verified. Factory accuracy is not.** The generated closed model matches Apple's published overall width, depth and height. Apple does not publish manufacturing CAD, coating measurements or a tolerance drawing for the small exterior features. Their locations, radii, materials and finish are visually estimated. This asset must not be described as “100% accurate,” “Apple CAD,” a certified replica, or a manufacturing model.

The screen is an authored Foundworks concept using native Apple system typography and macOS visual references. It is not a captured, running copy of macOS or a pixel-identical reproduction of every system control. No private user screenshot is included.

## Hardware research and model decisions

| Area | Reference evidence | Implementation / confidence |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Product identity | Apple's model-specific 2024 M4 Pro specification | 14-inch, Space Black, U.S. keyboard. High confidence on identity; not a 16-inch or a current-generation M5 product. |
| Exterior size | 312.6 mm wide × 221.2 mm deep × 15.5 mm high | Meter-scale geometry. Closed bounds measured after transforms; see JSON. Published size uses Apple's rounded precision, not a micrometer tolerance. |
| Display | 3024 × 1964 pixels, 254 ppi | 302.4 × 196.4 mm nominal image rectangle derived from pixel density. Corner treatment, notch size, bezel offsets and the physical edge of the active display are estimates. The nominal rectangle is not a claim about exact visible area. |
| Keyboard | 78-key U.S. layout, 12 full-height function keys, inverted-T arrows, Touch ID | 78 individual keycaps with legends and hand-drawn function symbols. Key pitch, sculpt, font size, cap depth and recess clearances estimated from reference. Lighting is not a simulation of each backlight LED. |
| Connectivity | Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, MagSafe 3, HDMI, SDXC, headphone jack | Correct port types/count and side arrangement. Actual body cutouts plus cavity and connector details. Connector dimensions/positions, contacts and machining radii are approximations. |
| Enclosure | Official front, side, keyboard and product photographs | Rounded unibody, lower panel, finger scoop, separate lid, recessed trackpad, vents and speaker apertures. Secondary geometry is visually calibrated. |
| Underside | Apple's bottom-case repair instructions identify eight pentalobe screws | Eight screw representations and four feet. Screw locations, recess profiles, foot sizes and bottom lettering placement are estimates. No serial number is fabricated. |
| Camera | 12 MP Center Stage camera in the display notch | Notch, lens and ambient sensor represented. Internal camera optics and sensors are not modeled. |
| Materials | Space Black official photography under varying lighting | Separate aluminum, glass, polymer, rubber and connector materials. Appearance is light-dependent and not spectrophotometrically measured. No claim of an exact anodization formula. |
| Lid movement | Product geometry and viewing references | Separate pivot at the rear; default 110° opening, viewer range 0–135°. The selected range is for presentation, not a measured Apple mechanical travel limit. |

A current-generation Apple AR reference was examined only as a secondary proportion check. Its measured width differed slightly from the 2024 published size, so it was not treated as M4 CAD. Its mesh and textures are **not** included in this reconstruction. Geometry here is generated by the supplied script. The rear trademark silhouette is traced from the public Apple navigation mark, used to identify the depicted hardware; Apple owns that mark. This is not an Apple-endorsed asset.

## macOS appearance research

Keep the **hardware year separate from the displayed OS version**. The M4 product's launch-era OS and the user's current OS are different. The screen treatment follows current macOS Golden Gate references and the user's requested dark appearance. This research covers visible presentation relevant to a website mockup; it does not purport to research every operating-system feature or internal subsystem.

| Visible system area | Research finding and implementation |
| --- | --- |
| System typography | Use the local Apple system font for UI, consistent optical sizing, restrained weight changes and native text density. The display was captured at 2× resolution. The web UI uses `-apple-system`; other platforms may fall back. No font binary is distributed. |
| Windows | The dark title/toolbar region and sidebar read as parts of one window. Use a fine edge, rounded corners, restrained shadow and normal-sized traffic lights. Avoid giant generic browser chrome. |
| Liquid Glass | Apple places the material in functional controls and navigation. The authored Dock uses translucency, blur and edge light over a visible background. The content area retains contrast. This is an approximation in web rendering, not the proprietary system shader. |
| Menu bar | Compact menus on the left, status indicators on the right, one shared baseline, room for the physical notch. The menu time is demonstration content, not live system status. |
| Dock | App icons have consistent optical scale; translucent container, separator and background interaction establish depth. The image includes Apple system icon references and existing Foundworks app icons. |
| Content | A specific Rivera Plumbing editing task, a selected page, a preview and a plausible assistant response. “Illustrative interface” remains visible. This is not evidence that unshipped software features already exist. |
| Wallpaper and screen glass | The background is authored artwork. Glass appearance belongs to the display surface; it should not blur the software's actual text. Generated image lettering is not used. |
| Reduced motion | Embedded motion holds a composed static state when reduced motion is requested. Navigation, text and links remain available. |

## Reusing the master

**Blender:** select `Screen_Replaceable`; replace the packed image in material `Screen • replace this texture` with a 3024 × 1964 image. Do not stretch a 16:9 screenshot into this surface. Leave the hardware notch separate from the texture. `Lid_Hinge` rotates about local X: 0° is closed and −110° is the default opening. The source file retains individually named keycaps.

**Web:** load the GLB with a glTF-compatible renderer. Use the `Lid_Hinge` node and `Screen_Replaceable` mesh; do not depend on mesh ordering. glTF uses meters and Y-up after export. Clone the initial hinge quaternion, then apply a local-X delta corresponding to the desired opening. When swapping a Three.js texture, use sRGB color space and `flipY = false` to match the glTF UV convention. Dispose of replaced texture resources.

The screen is intentionally emissive/unlit to keep UI readable; it is not a physically calibrated HDR display. The web asset batches material groups for efficiency. Keep the `.blend` master when editing individual parts.

**Regeneration:** run `build_model.py` with Blender 4.5 on macOS. Keep `logo-outline.json` and `screen-foundworks.png` alongside it. `MACBOOK_OUTPUT_DIR` can choose an output folder; `MACBOOK_FONT_PATH` can choose a properly licensed local system font. Add `-- --render` to produce the product image. The builder does not fetch reference assets or use Apple model geometry.

## How future revisions should improve accuracy

1. Compare straight front, rear, top, underside and both side views before judging a flattering perspective render.
2. Correct geometry before hiding an error with lighting or depth of field.
3. Record each changed estimate with its evidence and confidence. Published dimensions outrank measurements inferred from a perspective photo.
4. Validate closed bounds, lid clearance, key count and connector count after each change.
5. Judge Space Black under neutral light and grazing light. A single render cannot prove material fidelity.
6. Use authentic app screenshots when the corresponding product screen exists; keep concept labels for proposed interfaces.
7. Recheck desktop, narrow mobile, reduced motion and GPU failure behavior before deploying a new asset.
8. For materially higher precision, measure the target physical 14-inch M4 Pro unit with calibrated photography/scanning and direct dimensions. Manufacturing-level equivalence remains unverified without authoritative engineering data.
